Gift Policies

Our promise to every donor is that all gifts will be used as the donor intended to benefit Iowa State University and its students. The following ISU Foundation policies help ensure donor intent is fulfilled to support Iowa State:

The Gift Acceptance Policy (PDF) outlines procedures for analyzing and accepting charitable gifts to the ISU Foundation for Iowa State University's benefit. A gift is accepted by the foundation only when the interest of the donor is served and when the gift reasonably can be expected to benefit the university. Prospective donors are urged to seek the advice of their own legal and financial advisors in the gift planning process.

The Memorandum of Agreement (PDF), developed with each donor who establishes a separate endowed account, ensures that the donor's intent is fully understood by the donor, the foundation staff and university administrators.

Private gifts to support Iowa State University through the ISU Foundation offer the university's donors an opportunity for appropriate recognition for their generosity and contributions to ISU. Depending upon the level of commitment, recognition may include naming opportunities for faculty and student endowed funds, facilities, colleges, and programs. To maintain consistent naming standards throughout the university, Iowa State University and the ISU Foundation adopted the following naming guidelines effective October 2006.

The Iowa State University Foundation respects the privacy of donors' personal and financial information. The policy of the foundation is not to release information to the public about prospective or actual donors other than donors' names, gift ranges and gift designations beginning May 1, 2005. The foundation will honor requests from donors that their names not be released, and will maintain the confidentiality of all other donor information, unless otherwise required by law.
