“I have spent my life around animals and feel it is my life’s calling to heal and protect them,” said Mandy Larson, class of 2013, who plans to become a mixed-animal practitioner. Receiving support enabled her to have important experiences outside the classroom. She participated as a leader in numerous organizations, including the Zoo, Exotics, and Wildlife Club; the Avian Club; the Veterinary Public Health Club; the Iowa State Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association; and many others. She has supplemented her education with a weeklong wildlife medicine course, and traveled to Malaysia, where she worked with scientists and humanitarians who seek to combat poverty and hunger as a World Food Prize Borlaug-Ruan intern. “I can never express my gratitude adequately for the support I have received at Iowa State.” Larson is the recipient of the Russell G. and Lora L. Talbot Scholars in Veterinary Medicine Scholarship.
