Troxel Hall Groundbreaking Ceremonies Held at Iowa State University

AMES, Iowa — Groundbreaking ceremonies for Troxel Hall, Iowa State University's newest classroom auditorium, were held Friday, Oct. 21, on campus.

The ceremonies were held adjacent to the Troxel Hall construction site on Farm House Lane between Agronomy Hall and the Horticulture Greenhouse Complex.

Once completed, the 400-seat classroom auditorium will optimize the quality of instruction and student learning in introductory courses in the physical and social sciences. The facility will feature state-of-the-art instructional technology and lecturer demonstration capabilities.

"Troxel Hall will be a state-of-the-art facility for teaching and learning in the physical and social sciences," said Iowa State President Gregory L. Geoffroy, "and because these areas are a fundamental part of the kind of broad-based education that a land-grant university like Iowa State provides, it is very likely that every student will have a class or other learning experience here at some time in their career at Iowa State."

The Change Happens Foundation of Holualoa, Hawaii, provided the lead gift for Troxel Hall. The building will be named for Douglas D. Troxel (’67 mathematics), president and chief executive officer of the private family foundation.

In addition to Douglas Troxel and Geoffroy, other speakers at the groundbreaking included Mike Troxel of the Change Happens Foundation, Tom Barton, Distinguished Professor of chemistry, and Chandra Peterson, a senior majoring in political science and philosophy from Lake Mills, Iowa.

Construction is tentatively scheduled to be completed in March 2013.
