2017 Recipient - Roy and Bobbi Reiman
Roy: ISU B.S. Agricultural Journalism 1957; Chairman, Hexagon Investments; Publisher, Our Iowa Magazine
Bobbi: ISU Honorary Degree 2006
The Iowa State campus we all know and love today surely could not exist without the loyal support from Roy and Bobbi Reiman. Their generosity has impacted iconic corners of campus, preserving and elevating the look and spirit of campus for generations of Cyclones to come.
The Reimans’ donations to Iowa State over the years have been transformational. Besides their generous gifts to Reiman Gardens – including a recent donation to jump-start the Sycamore Falls project – their giving has supported the Alumni Center, Jack Trice Stadium South End Zone, the restoration of the campanile and Morrill Hall, the Greenlee School of Journalism, the Reiman Endowment for Entrepreneurship and the Reiman Lectures in Entrepreneurship.
“This is a special place for me,” said Roy. “In a way, it’s where my life truly began. How could I not give back to a place that made such a difference in who I am?” Bobbi also views Iowa State with great fondness, but through a different lens. “I didn’t graduate from here, but I have strong feelings for Iowa State,” she said. “It’s sort of like when I married Roy, I married Iowa State, too.”
The Reimans are quick to give of their time and talent to the university as well. Roy is an Iowa State University Foundation Governor and a past member and president of the Iowa State University Alumni Association board of directors. In addition to this award, he has received the Iowa State University Alumni Association Alumni Medal in 1983, the Order of the Knoll Campanile Award in 1998, the alumni association’s Impact Award in 2003 and their Distinguished Alumni Award in 2010. Bobbi was awarded an honorary degree from Iowa State in 2006.
For his success in the publishing and entrepreneurial sector, Roy has also been recognized as Magazine Publisher of the Year in 1984 and was inducted into the Wisconsin Entrepreneur Hall of Fame in 2015. He is now focused on his latest publication success, “Our Iowa.” Local organizations in which the Reimans are involved include Keep Iowa Beautiful and the Iowa Barn Foundation.
The Reimans live in Greendale, Wisconsin, and have six children: Joni, Lori, Cindi, Scott, Juli and Terrin. They are members of the Order of the Knoll True and Valiant Society and Campanile Society, and are lifetime members of the Iowa State University Alumni Association.
