2017 Governors Staff Award
Valerie Jansen has shown a true commitment to the Iowa State University Foundation and Iowa State University since starting work here as a student office assistant more than a decade ago. Even then she displayed outstanding drive and efficiency and was trusted to coordinate high level projects and streamline procedures and processes for the departments of gift planning and leadership gifts.
During Campaign Iowa State, in the position of development assistant for the campaign and research, Valerie assisted the campaign manager and the campaign chair. She was a primary contact for campaign reporting, logistics and metrics.
After the successful conclusion of the campaign, Valerie transitioned into a coordination position with communications. Valerie was integral to the success of combining three communications areas at the foundation into one, helping to merge workflows and project calendars of the separate departments and implementing new organizational tools to keep the team organized and efficient.
Valerie is known for her attention to detail and her ability to juggle multiple mission-critical projects and timelines. She guided the completion of more than 400 communications projects last fiscal year, playing an essential role in the launch of the Forever True, For Iowa State campaign. During her career at the Iowa State University Foundation, Valerie has demonstrated outstanding commitment, professionalism and leadership by example, and was recently recognized by being promoted to director of marketing services.
A 2006 graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in marketing, Valerie lives in Ankeny with her husband, David, and their daughters, Kendall and Addison. She is active in her daughters’ lives, including serving as incoming vice president of Crocker Elementary school’s parent-teacher organization.
